Health officials have declared a national pertussis (whooping cough) epidemic across the motu as cases have increased rapidly over the past few months.
Young babies and older people are most at risk, if exposed, in becoming very sick and in some cases needing hospitalisation.
If you are pregnant, or live in a household with someone who is, or have children – vaccinations are available and are super important to protect you and reduce the symptoms of pertussis. It is important that immunisations are done on time to be most effective.
