Why has the flu hit NZ so hard this year?

It is generally at this time that evenings are lighter for longer, as we edge a little closer to daylight savings.  It is also at this time that we normally expect to be at the tail end of the winter blues and illnesses, but hospitals and GP clinics are still experiencing a high number of flu cases coming through their doors.  Why is this?

It’s not too late to get your flu shot, it is still available – ‘Saturday Shot O’clock’ (poster below) is also still in operation every Saturday until the end of September so come through and get it done!
